Coaches Letter
Dear Track Athletes and Parents,
The Hill Track coaches are excited to have you on our team this year. Before any athlete can participate in practices, a current sports physical, (less than 1 year old), must be on file in the nurse’s office, along with all required paperwork. The Hill Track coaches are excited to have you on our team this year. Before any athlete can participate in practices, a current sports physical, (less than 1 year old), must be on file in the nurse’s office, along with all required paperwork. As a coaching staff, we have the following expectations of all our athletes:
- Athletes should always show proper respect and sportsmanship.
- Arrive to practice on time. (3:10) Late arrival will result in an unexcused absence.
- Unexcused absences – Any absence must be previously excused by speaking with your attendance coach and providing a parent note. (Detentions are unexcused) - 3-results in suspension of a meet 4-asked to leave the team.
- Practice ends at 4:45 each day. Rides from practice MUST be here no later than 5:00!
- Repeated failure to be picked up on time will result in termination from the team.
- It is the responsibility of the athlete to make sure their times or distances are recorded by managers at each meet.
- Uniforms- Each athlete is required to purchase a team shirt for their track meet uniform top.
- Athletes will also be issued a team sweat suit. The athlete MUST return their assigned numbered sweats, or they will be fined.
- Optionally, athletes can purchase a new sweat suit to use during the season and keep. See the uniform ordering form for details.
- Track Meets start at approximately 4:30 and last around 2 ½ hours depending on how many schools are running and number of athletes.
- Squad Coaches should be notified of planned absences via email
Philosophy and Expectations
PHILOSOPHY
Our goal is to have fun while learning about track and field, and while improving our fitness and skill levels. Track and Field is a sport in which personal achievement is just as important as team achievement, and by improving yourself you improve the team. Everyone will try all of the events: running, sprinting, jumping, and throwing. Together, we will decide the events in which you’ll compete at meets. But, the main purpose is to enjoy the process!
PRACTICES
Attendance will be taken at practices, and you must attend practices to participate in meets. Please communicate excused absenses 24 hours in advance to the appropriate attendance coach. (see Coaches/Contact)
What to Bring to Practices:
Every day: proper attire, water bottle or sports drink
Mandatory: running or cross training sneakers (not: basketball shoes, Converse, Keds, Sketchers, etc)
Mandatory: sweatpants or track pants AND a sweatshirt, fleece, or warm windbreaker. We practice outside nearly every day, and will run even if the weather is in the 40's.
Optional but suggested: hat and gloves, small towel, lip balm, sunscreen, energizing snack.
MEETS
Depending on how many athletes have been entered into each event, we are hoping to have most meets finished by 7:00. Please maintain communication with your child via cell phone or a friend's cell phone to monitor the progress of the meet. Our first several meets have unlimited entries. This may extend our meet time signifigantly, so please stay in contact with your child. As the season progresses, entries become limited, resulting in a shorter meet time.
Taking your Child Home From Meets
If you are picking up your child directly from the meet, please be sure to sign them out with the team manager. We will be bussing the students back to Hill after the meet. If you are planning to pick your child up directly from the High School, after the meet, you must be there when the bus leaves or we will have to take them with us back to Hill. We can not leave athletes behind in anticipation of an arriving ride, nor are we able to hold the bus to wait for them
